NEW Notts County defender Kyle Cameron says he rejected Football League clubs to join the Magpies.

“I had a few offers in the Football League,” said Cameron, who played in last Sunday’s National League play-off final where the Gulls were defeated by Hartlepool.

“But for what I want as a player and the way I want to develop and get better, the facilities and the management team here really stood out. It’s the full package and it suits me perfectly.”

Cameron has played in a back three, a back four, at full-back and in a variety of midfield positions for the Gulls, and County boss Ian Burchnall says that versatility was a big draw.

“I strongly believe Kyle can go levels up from here and feel this is a big coup for the club,” he said.

“He actually played on the left wing against us in the playoffs and we were impressed with his ability on the ball.

“We think he’ll be really comfortable stepping out of defence and, combined with his excellent aerial and defensive capabilities, we’ve got ourselves a top centre-back who suits us perfectly.

“He’s left-footed, too, which adds more balance to our back line, and he’s got fantastic leadership qualities.”
