IT IS almost two decades since Crewe Alexandra spotted a skinny, flamboyant forward by the name of Luke Varney playing for Quorn.
Now, after 104 goals in 512 games for the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County, Leeds United and Ipswich Town, he is back where it all began.
“My wife put something on Instagram a few days ago saying I was back after 21 years,” laughs the 38-year-old, who rejoined the United Counties League Premier Division North side on Monday. “Just reading it, you think ‘God, where did the time go?’. It feels like yesterday.
