ALL SET: Shaun Brisley

SHAUN BRISLEY says he intends to play his part in delivering Wrexham to the Football League.

The 31-year-old is new boss Phil Parkinson’s first summer signing after joining on a two-year deal following his departure from League Two outfit Port Vale.

The centre-back, who won the Football League Trophy with Peterborough United in 2014, isn’t fazed by the hype around the club with their Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

He said: “I’m delighted. Once I met with the manager, and he explained the really exciting project here, I couldn’t wait to join.

“Wrexham are a big club who don’t deserve to be where they are now. With the new owners and the project in front of them, I want to play my part in getting us back to the Football League.

“It’s massive to be coming into something with a lot of hype around it, but the main objective is, of course, promotion to the Football League.”

Brisley has been joined at the Racecourse by former FC Halifax Town and Stockport County striker Liam McAlinden.

The 27-year-old has signed a two-year deal from Morecambe, where he was part of their promotion-winning side in League Two.

He said: “I spoke to the manager last week and once he explained the project here I was keen to get involved.

“From the outside looking in, it’s been really interesting to see what is happening at Wrexham so as soon as I knew the club was interested, it was a no-brainer to get it over line.

“I’ve played in the National League before, and enjoyed a consistent season. I’d describe myself as a hard-working forward, I like to get in behind defenders and hopefully I can bring something to excite the fans once they’re back at the Racecourse Ground.”
