SUBSTITUTE Benjamin Diamond proved the ace in the pack as AFC Rushden & Diamonds narrowly edged out Nuneaton.
The visitors registered the first attempt on target when Nathan Tshikuna rounded Tony Breeden, only to crack the outside of the post when placed under pressure by the retreating Boro defence.
A speculative attempt by Ryan Edmunds inched narrowly over the bar and preceded a raft of Nuneaton chances, with marauding full-back Scott McManus twice going close with two headers in quick succession.
