■ DESPITE a valiant effort by Prescot Cables they fell short to higher league side Whitby Town.
Whitby started off on the front foot with a few chances they were unable to convert.
The game then began to even out with lots of chances for both teams, until a penalty was awarded to Whitby after Cables keeper Mitchell Allen brought down Marcus Giles.
Allen managed to tip the penalty onto the post and keep it out, but not long after Whitby took the lead through Josh Macdonald.
