RUSHDEN began the lively of the two teams but it was Sutton’s Rhys Hilton who had the best effort of the opening exchanges when he fired into the side netting.
A quick break down the left saw Kyle Byrne launch a number of shots on the Rushden goal which were cleared off the line as the first half ended in stalemate.
After the break the visitors were denied by a goal-line clearance with Sutton keeper Jono Brown in no man’s land, before Pedro Lima met a corner at the far post to head the hosts ahead.
