National League North

Match Preview: Tamworth v South Shields (Saturday, 3pm)

South Shields face a challenge to maintain their high-scoring form away against a tight Tamworth defence on Saturday.

With 74 goals in 44 games, South Shields are the third-highest scorers in the National League North ahead of the 3pm kick-off at the Lamb Ground.

They face a Tamworth side who have scored 68 in 44 matches, but conceded only 27 goals, putting them top of the league’s tightest defences.

Tamworth are top of the table after 44 games, of which they have won 27 and drawn nine, earning 90 points.

South Shields are five places behind the hosts in sixth, with 21 wins and eight draws putting them on 71 points.

Tamworth are in mixed form in the National League North, with two wins and three draws from their last six games.

With five wins and one loss over that period, the away team’s form is much better – they have taken 15 points from 18, compared to Tamworth’s nine.

Tamworth’s last match was on April 6, a 1-1 draw against Warrington Town.

South Shields beat Bishop’s Stortford 7-0 last time out, also on April 6.
