FC UNITED were celebrating this week after a court ruled that planning permission for their new community development could not be appealed.

The Rebels were granted permission for the Moston-based development by the Manchester City Council in December last year.

Local residents opposed the development and launched a last-ditch attempt to get the Council’s ruling overturned.

However, London’s Court of Appeal refused permission for an appeal and the club will now press forward with the development.

A statement on the club website said: “After what has been a costly and lengthy delay we are pleased with the decision of the court and look forward to being able to begin the build and bring the anticipated social and economic benefit to the area as soon as possible.

“FC United of Manchester remains committed and open to work with all local residents and community groups, including those who remain sceptical about the development, and ensure this development is a real asset to the local area and Manchester as a whole. We will happily discuss any remaining concerns and explore ways in which they can be addressed.”
