PRESCOT’S early goal ensured ten-man Basford’s path to avoid the drop took another wrong turn, leaving them five points from safety with five matches left to play.
In the second minute, United skipper Ethan Stewart mistimed a tackle just outside his box and was shown a yellow card.
The punishment was escalated when Franny Smith curled in an unstoppable shot which left goalkeeper Saul Deeney clutching at air.
