Play-offs really are a lottery

I CAN not accept Lee Kempson’s assertion that if the highest-placed play-off team are better they will “win the playoffs anyway” (Fans’ Forum, June 22).
That is patently not the case.
All teams have an off day or a ‘bogey’ team. Isn’t that why we have a 46-game season so that the most effective team(s) can triumph? Why bother otherwise?
In the case of York City this season, an off-day from the league runners-up proved crucial – and unfair when compared to their full season’s results.
