The National League returns this weekend after a short break for the FA Cup, with a titanic promotion showdown between Forest Green Rovers and Carlisle United topping the bill.

Two giants of the game, and two familiar Welsh faces, go head-to-head as Robbie Savage faces off against his former Wales manager Mark Hughes in a top-of-the-table showdown at Brunton Park.

Forest Green travel north looking to respond after suffering their first defeat of the campaign, a 2-1 loss to Rochdale that ended their unbeaten run and saw Dale leapfrog them into pole position.

Despite the setback, Savage’s side remain firmly in title contention.

Carlisle United vs Forest Green Rovers

Kick-off is at 5:30 p.m. BST on Saturday, 18 October, with the match streamed live and exclusively on DAZN via National League TV (NLTV).

Carlisle, meanwhile, sit just a single point behind their visitors. Under Hughes, the Cumbrians were widely tipped as one of the pre-season favourites to earn promotion back to the EFL.

And while their campaign has had its challenges, Hughes’ experienced leadership has kept them well within reach of the summit.

This meeting between two footballing figures with rich Welsh history adds an extra layer of intrigue to an already high-stakes encounter.

Solihull Moors vs Braintree Town

Kick-off is at 12:30 p.m. BST on Saturday, 18 October, with live coverage exclusively on DAZN via National League TV (NLTV).

Fans tuning in this weekend will be treated to a lunchtime National League encounter as Solihull Moors host Braintree Town at Damson Park.

This fixture brings contrasting narratives. Solihull Moors, under new management, are still hunting for their first win under Chris Millington as he seeks to steady the ship and shift momentum.

Braintree, meanwhile, are battling adversity of a different sort – with one of the youngest squads in the division, they are striving to claw their way out of relegation danger after a difficult start.

Braintree boss Steve Pitt has been open about his club’s challenges and belief in his young squad.

He admitted the club now fields the youngest group in the league and acknowledged the heavy turnover of players and injuries, but remains defiant:

Ahead of Saturday’s live game on DAZN, Pitt told DAZN News: “It’s been a challenging start, but it comes with the territory, doesn’t it?

“We achieved the near-impossible last season, but we’ve lost some exceptionally good players that I would have loved to have kept around me.

“We’ve now got some really young, exciting players in the building. That I think are going to go on to really, really good things within the game and bigger and better things.

“We’re still gelling. But we’re not a million miles away from where we need to be.”

Sutton United vs Hartlepool United

Kick-off is at 5:30 p.m. BST on Saturday, 18 October, with live coverage exclusively on DAZN via National League TV (NLTV).

There’s more live National League action on Saturday teatime as Sutton United welcome Hartlepool United to the VBS Community Stadium.

This fixture offers another intriguing storyline from the National League’s weekend schedule.

Sutton, under new head coach Chris Agutter, are aiming to build on the hard-fought point earned in their goalless draw against Essex neighbours Braintree Town last time out.

Agutter replaced Steve Morison, who departed after a difficult start to the campaign that yielded just one win.

Hartlepool, meanwhile, arrive in South London sitting in mid-table.

The Pools are seeking renewed momentum after parting company with manager Simon Grayson earlier this week, with the club’s inconsistent form having hampered their push toward the play-off places.
