914-mile trip rewarded

It’s quicker to fly to New York for the weekend but try telling that to Truro City’s 185 travel-hardy loyal supporters who made the mammoth trip to Gateshead – so the least we could do was buy them a drink when they got there!
The Non-League Paper proudly teamed up with broadcast giants DAZN yesterday to offer thirsty Tinners a pre-match tipple and recognise the longest round trip in English football of 914 miles!
With the help of the Heed and their favourite local – The Fog on the Tyne – Truro fans showing their team’s shirt or scarf were able to enjoy a drink ahead of yesterday’s National League fixture.
Fog on the Tyne landlord Fred Wilson even arranged with their local Wylam Brewery to have a special lager badged up to commemorate the epic journey.
Recognise
Truro fans are well used to putting the miles in to watch their team following the Cornish outfit’s rapid rise up the Non-League Pyramid.
But they’ve taken it to a whole new level this season after their remarkable National League South title triumph under boss John Askey.
In September, Askey’s side made the 878-mile round-trip to Carlisle United – just four miles more than next month’s visit to Hartlepool.
But Gateshead tops them all coming in at around 10-12 hours with stops and National League broadcaster DAZN couldn’t be prouder to recognise their efforts.

Dedication
Pete Oliver, DAZN CEO of Growth Markets, said: “As the global home of National League TV, DAZN celebrates the passion, energy and remarkable stories in football.
“We are delighted to be part of Truro City fans’ incredible journey to the game in a way that brings everyone together.
“Football is all about community, and this celebration – in partnership with The Non-League Paper – at The Fog on the Tyne is a small gesture to recognise the dedication of supporters who make the game so special.
“We can’t wait to raise a glass with the fans.”

Cheers
Sam Emery, managing director of The Non-League Paper, said: “For more than 25 years here at The NLP, we’ve been privileged and proud to applaud the incredible commitment Non-League fans show to the clubs they love.
“So we’re delighted to partner with DAZN and say, ‘Cheers!’ to the travelling Truro supporters at the wonderful Fog on the Tyne pub. I’m sure those first few sips will go down a treat.”
Of course, Truro’s new longest-trip record will only last a few months – Gateshead make the return journey in February!
