WREXHAM midfielder Dean Keates has signed a one-year contract extension with the Conference Premier club.

The club’s skipper played over 40 times for the Dragons last term, leading them to the play-off finals, where they were eventually beaten by Welsh rivals Newport County.

Keates, who includes Walsall, Kidderminster Harriers and Peterborough United among his former clubs, says he’s happy to have sorted his future after what has been an uncertain period following the play-off defeat.

Dean Keates WrxSpeaking to the club’s website, the 34-year-old said: “It has been a frustrating few weeks for me personally, as we were close but not quite close enough.

“Now though both sides are more than happy; we’ve come to an agreement and now we can look forward to a better year that ends with us being promoted.

“You only have to look around and this is a great stadium to play at, not just in this league, but for the leagues above.

“The training facilities are first class and there is a great feel about the club. Everyone is in it together, which makes everybody feel welcome and wanted.”
