Refs just can’t win

IN RESPONSE to Russell David’s article on the postponement of the Bath City v Southend match (NLP, January 18), I believe he has a point.
Firstly, referees have a very difficult job nowadays with the popularity of their decisions depending on which team you support on the day.
If the ref cancels the match not long before kick-off he should not get a match fee but should get travel expenses.
He/she has the safety of the players to think about and would get slated if a player got badly injured on a dodgy pitch.
