Award-winning groundsman Joe Mecke-Davis found a novel way of making best use of his club’s waterlogged pitch – by rowing a boat on it!
Mecke-Davis, head groundsman at Hellenic League Premier side Westfields FC, got something of a surprise when turning up at the Hereford-based club’s Allpay Park ground on Wednesday to find the pitch almost completely covered by rain water after being hit by Storm Chandra.
