It only takes a few minutes for Matt Atherton to get to Euxton Villa’s ground when they’re playing at home – but he was almost 1,500 miles away when he received upstates on their FA Cup win last weekend.

It only takes a few minutes for Matt Atherton to get to Euxton Villa’s ground when they’re playing at home.
However, he was close to 1,500 miles away and relying on updates sent by phone last weekend as the Lancashire club put six goals past opponents Atherton LR to record a first FA Cup win.
“I don’t recommend that as a way to follow football,” he told The NLP.
“You just end up checking your mobile isn’t broken if more than a few minutes go by without receiving any news!”
