Robbie Savage given permission to speak to another club amid Peterborough United interest

Forest Green Rovers boss Robbie Savage has been given permission to speak to another club amid reported interest from League One side Peterborough United – and will not be in the dugout for Tuesday night’s clash with Wealdstone.

Assistant manager Jonathan Gould confirmed Savage’s absence on Monday after Saturday’s 3-3 draw at Sutton United, revealing the Rovers boss has been given permission to hold talks with another club.

“He’s been given permission by the club to speak to another football club and then we’ve got to get on with our jobs,” Gould told the club’s media.

“We’ve got a big game against Wealdstone on the back of a battling draw away at Sutton.”

Talks

The Posh parted company with Luke Williams in the aftermath of a 2-0 defeat to Doncaster Rovers, leaving them 23rd in League One.

Savage has emerged as one of the leading contenders for the role after making a strong impression since taking charge at Forest Green in 2025.

Asked whether he would be with the squad for Tuesday’s game, Gould confirmed: “No, Robbie won’t be with us tomorrow.”

Gould, Jan Klukowski and Josh Bowen will instead lead the team against Wealdstone, with the coaching staff determined to keep the focus on the players.

“There’s a group of us here. There’s myself, Jan and Josh,” said Gould.

“We’ve obviously been working together now for five months through pre-season and we know each other very well.

“We’ll bring all our strengths to the table for the team.

“Hopefully, they go out and do themselves justice on the night because really it’s all about the team.”

Clear minds

Gould admitted the players had been made aware of the situation first thing on Monday morning.

“We had a conversation first thing this morning,” he said.

“It’s always good to make sure they go out and their minds are clear of what’s going on at the football club.”

He added: “Players will be disappointed at this moment in time but we’ve just got to get on with what we’re doing as a group of people.

“We represent the football club at the end of the day and we also represent the last 15 months of what Robbie’s done and how well the club has progressed.”
