Leek’s Johnston Set For Crewe Move

Leek Town

By Matthew Barrett

LEEK TOWN winger John Johnston is set to join Sky Bet League One side Crewe Alexandra following a successful trial.

The 19-year-old joined the Blues last summer from Kidsgrove Athletic and has attracted interest from professional sides following a good run of performances.

Crewe, who have a great reputation for bringing through young talent, were the first club to make an offer for Johnston which is likely to see the youngster loaned back to Harrison Park until the end of the Evo-Stik NPL Division One South season.

Leek chairman Andrew Wain said: “Crewe is the first club to offer a deal and this is an opportunity that the young lad should not miss.

“I am now in negotiations with the Alex chairman and I am confident we can reach a deal that will be in the best interests of both the player and Leek Town.”

Wain added: “If Johnston signs for the Alex, then we will be looking for him to be loaned back to Leek Town until the end of the season.”
