Woodhouse Takes Goole Reins

CURTIS WOODHOUSE is back in management with Goole AFC after replacing David Holdsworth.

Holdsworth left the Vikings earlier today with Saturday’s 3-0 home defeat to Coalville being his last game in charge. That result left Goole 14th in the Evo-Stik NPL Division One South, 15 points adrift of the play-offs.

There has been plenty of national coverage of the club over the past couple of days after skipper Karl Colley appeared to try and throw a punch at a fan following his sending off in the Coalville game – he was subsequently sacked.

Ex-Sheffield FC boss and Birmingham City midfielder Woodhouse, who is in training for the last fight of his professional boxing career against Darren Hamilton for the British light welterweight title on February 22, has taken over after being Holdsworth’s assistant.

The pair were brought to the club by new chairman Baron Bloom in October and Woodhouse, 33, said: “I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to be back in full time management.

“It came as a bit of a surprise with a good friend of mine David leaving but as one door closes in football another one opens. I’m looking forward to getting stuck in.”

Chief Bloom added:  “We leave as friends, it’s just a parting of the ways and I’m very happy to have worked together.

“I’m delighted to offer Curtis the job, he knows the league inside out. We hope his appointment will bring success to the Vikings. His knowledge of the game is second to none and he has my full support.”
