PROBE INTO KNIFE WIELDING PLAYER

POLICE are investigating an allegation that a game was abandoned after a Sawbridgeworth Town player ran on to the pitch brandishing a knife, writes Robin Jones.
The club’s home Essex Senior League game against Clapton last Saturday was immediately brought to a halt by the referee in injury-time, sparking off an inquiry by the Hertfordshire FA. The player, who has not been named, was subsequently sacked by the club – and banned for life from their ground.
