NATIONAL League South club Margate have appointed 25-year-old Ryan Day as their new chief executive to replace the outgoing Chris Pope.

Benefactor Bob Laslett stepped down as chairman at Hartsdown Park last month and Pope has followed him through the exit door after resigning.

Pope said: “I have loved my time at MFC and have many success stories to look back on. I would like to thank the previous chairman Bob Laslett for giving me a great opportunity and I wish (new chairman) John Webb and everyone connected with the club all the very best.”

A lifelong supporter of the club, Day has been responsible for Margate’s media department for the past two seasons and will now step up to become chief executive.

“It is an honour to be asked by John to take on this very important role within the club,” said Day. “It is a new challenge for me but one that I will work on 24/7 to ensure the very best for MFC.”

Webb added: “I would like to thank Chris for all his endeavours. Margate Football Club would like to wish Chris all the best for the future.

“I am delighted that Ryan has taken on this opportunity at the club. We all know how much Ryan cares about the club and his desire and passion will help him succeed in this role.”
