It’s Chester day young Luke Shepherd will never forget!

IAN CAVENEY and seven-year-old grandson Luke Shepherd got more than they bargained for when they lapped-up the five-star treatment at their beloved last weekend.

Caveney, 66, won two VIP tickets to the Blues' recent game against Bristol Rovers as part of a competition posted in The .

And after seeing his grandson's side battle back from two goals down to rescue a point, Ian told how the pair had enjoyed the perfect day thanks to the league sponsors.

He said: “We got there at midday and went up to the Legends Lounge. We were sat on the same table as the Bristol Rovers directors.

“Luke had his Chester shirt on so we weren't sure how that would go down but they were all very friendly.

Surprises

“We then went round the dressing room and onto the pitch. The most exciting thing was when we went down to the changing rooms, there were two players sitting there.

“One of them was Ben Heneghan — Luke's favourite player. He was sitting there reading a programme but he was happy to have a photograph with him, so he was thrilled to bits.

“We then had a lovely three course meal. They made Luke a special meal of fish and chips which he really enjoyed.

“Just before the game we went down pitch side and met the manager, . He was terrific, he had loads of time for us and was a true gentleman.”

And the surprises didn't end there for the pair. Rhys Oates and Matty Hughes scored two goals in three minutes to earn Chester a deserved point, before Luke was then handed a few extra treats.

Ian explained: “They gave him a goody bag from the shop which included a Chester sandwich bag, hats and scarves. He was obviously thrilled to bits.

“The players came up and Luke sat down with them. He passed the programme around and all the players were kind enough to autograph it.

“Luke really had a day to remember for the rest of his life. We are extremely grateful to Vanarama for a big day out for Luke and myself. It was absolutely marvellous and we had a wonderful time.”
