RYMAN SOUTH side Sittingbourne have been boosted by some unexpected good news as the club set to benefit from a new stadium.
Kent Science Park, who own their current Woodstock Park home, want to turn the ground into 400 homes with the expansion creating hundreds of jobs.
As part of the plans, Kent Science Park are set to build a new ground for the Brickies, which would be fitted with a state of the art 3G pitch. Work on the new stadium could start as early as next year.
It's fantastic news for a club that have suffered from financial problems in recent times and faced going out of business before moving to Woodstock Park two years ago.
A club statement read: “The Kent Science Park has announced a 20 year plan for steady growth that includes new facilities for Sittingbourne Football Club. These include a new purpose built stadium with a 3G pitch and the stadium will incorporate the restaurant and hospitality facilities that the Woodstock club is noted for.
“The idea is at the pre planning stage but once planning permission has been granted the first stage will be to build the stadium and move Sittingbourne FC and the Woodstock Club facilities into it.
“Construction could start as early as 2016 subject to the receipt of planning permission. That will be followed by the demolition of the Woodstock club site and 200 homes for professionals who work at the Science Park will be built for rent on the site, followed by 200 homes for sale. The Science Park expansion will create 100s of new jobs at the popular business park.
“The proposals for the redevelopment of the Kent Science Park will be shown to the public at an exhibition to be held at The Woodstock Club, Broadoak Road, Sittingbourne, ME9 8AG on Saturday 18th July from 10am to 2pm.”
