Lincoln City Add Ex-Tyke David Preece

FORMER Aberdeen and Barnsley goalkeeper David Preece has joined Lincoln City on a non-contract basis.

The 36-year-old stopper began his career as a trainee at Sunderland but left the Black Cats without making a first-team appearance in 1997.

David Preece v NewcastleHe subsequently signed for and went on to feature over 100 times for the Quakers.

After two seasons with the North East outfit, Preece moved north of the border to sign for Aberdeen.

The Sunderland-born stopper remained with the Scottish Premier League side until 2005 when he moved further afield to join Danish club Silkeborg IF and later their national counterparts Odense Boldklub.

Preece returned to England in 2009, joining Barnsley, but failed to dislodge Luke Steele as the Tykes' number one and was released in the summer.

He has now linked up with Lincoln and Imps boss David Holdsworth is pleased to have him on board.

Holdsworth told the club's website: “David will join us short term with a view to an extension.

“He brings with him some excellent experience, specifically into the goalkeeping area.”
