Chapman returned to the Kassam Stadium in September 2011 but has since struggled to how down a regular place in the U's squad.

Adam Chapman OUHe spent time on loan with Newport County last season and has now linked up with Mansfield on a deal running until the end of the season.

Speaking about the Northern Ireland Under-21 international's arrival at Field Mill, Stags boss Paul Cox said: “After losing Anthony Howell for a short period of time, it was important that we strengthened in the centre of midfield.

“We had various options, but when we learned that Chappy was available, we were keen to bring him here.

“He'll add a bit of everything to our midfield. He's a strong player, with great technical ability.”
