Fatal Mistake: Gazza Thought About America When Signing For The Pilgrims

Our life is the infinite chain of choices. Everything is possible before you make your choice, but once it’s done, there’s no way out.

Our life is the infinite chain of choices. Everything is possible before you make your choice, but once it’s done, there’s no way out.

For example, if gambling is your choice for spending leisure time, then you definitely know that each move is money. Be it the wrong strategy in poker, or the wrong horse to bet on in horse racing, such a mistake will cost you a lot. Wise gamblers know that each detail matters – from the choice of a casino to the game you play there. That’s why experienced players always go to websites like www.casinoaus.com.au to choose the best and the most reliable online casino out of thousands that exist on the Internet today.

Yet, our choice may change much more than simply losing or winning some money. Even though we are not talking about historical decisions like accepting the Trojan Horse, sometimes one misunderstood word may cost you a career. For instance, the fallen National star Paul Gascoigne has recently admitted that his signing for the Pilgrims was a terrible choice made because of the silly mistake.

During his career, Paul made a total of 388 appearances and scored over 80 goals. The number of top clubs he played for include Rangers, Tottenham, Newcastle United and Lazio in Italy. The former England World Cup midfielder has explained his swift exit from the Pilgrims back in the 2000s. The truth is that he signed for Lincolnshire outfit Boston United because he had mistaken the name for the same city in the USA.

Since 1980s Paul had played for lots of clubs, including Burnley, Everton, Middlesbrough and a Chinese team. Then in 2002 he surprised the audience by rejecting the contract with DC United in the United States after a successful trial. What was really unexpected was his move to the League Two side Boston United two years later. After his decision in July 2004, Paul commented that it was a great chance for him to become a great coach and manager. Nonetheless, after only five appearances during three months, Gascoigne quit, citing purely professional reasons.

Today we finally know the truth: the whole story of signing for the Pilgrims was nothing but a huge mistake. Paul admits that his time at Boston United was a nightmare. When he got a call with an offer ‘from Boston’, he simply didn’t know about the Lincolnshire team. Thus, Gascoigne thought of the city in the USA and agreed immediately. When he found out the truth, though, it was too late to cancel anything, so he stayed in for three months.

The revelation of this incident is the latest, but definitely not the only one in Gascoigne’s 20-year-long career. At the moment, Paul is awaiting trial on a racially aggravated public order offense. Back in June, he was accused of using offensive words and behaving abusively during his show An Audience With Paul Gascoigne in Wolverhampton. Also, Gascoigne has a pretty noticeable history of alcohol-related problems.
