John Barnes: Footballing cult hero

Now working as a pundit for ESPN, John Barnes is one of the best British football players of the 20th Century – and he’s gained as many fans for his work off the pitch as he has on it.

As a footballer his best years were with Watford and Liverpool, during which time his team topped the first division twice and also won two FA cups. While with Liverpool, Barnes turned out a massive 314 times and scored on 84 occasions during that time.

His accolades didn’t stop there, though, because Barnes also scooped the much coveted Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year award – twice – and the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award.

Off the pitch he’s been a presenter and coach, including for the Jamaican national team, but it’s his musical talent which has perhaps earned him the most fans. A 1990 World Cup song titled World in Motion featured Barnes alongside teammates and the band New Order and has since become something of a cult classic among football fans.

Barnes is on the roster at London talent agency MN2S where he’s available to book for all sorts of public appearances and speaking engagements. Recommended by his booking agency for presenting gigs, especially sporting awards ceremonies, he’s a warm and engaging personality who’s sure to go down a treat.
