Liverpool FC is the latest sports team to decide on launching a non-fungible token (NFT). It will be called: The LFC Heroes Club. To do so, it has joined hands with the famous international auction house Sotheby’s. Here is what we know on the subject, as the launch was just announced.
Liverpool FC: A Football Team with a Vision
The future is today or so seems to think the great Liverpool Football Club. Just as it is about to play Emirate’s FA Cup semi-final, against long-time rival Manchester City, in a few weeks, its management team has announced that they were getting into the very futuristic market of NFTs, through two series of non-fungible tokens. The team has a very busy schedule these days, as it will meet with Manchester City soon, before the FA Cup, as part of the Premiere League regular season, and it also has a match scheduled in the Champions League, against Benfica Lisbonne. The goal of the team is to enable all their fans to possess a part of this unique collection, but also to keep a certain exclusivity on a few items. That is why there will be two levels of scarcity: One that will include 24 unique NTFs of different players, while the other will be particular, as it will be a series of generative NFT editions, made from players illustrations.
A Limited Time Offer
The sale will be held on Sotheby’s NFT marketplace and will last only three days. For $75, a person will be able to acquire the NFT of a unique player, of which illustrations will be generated randomly. This offers the buyer the sensation of opening a pack of collectible cards, not knowing what it will find inside the envelope. Anyone that buys one of these packs will only be able to open it, once the three-day sale will be over. As for the 24 legendary heroes NFTs, they will also be auctioned during the same three days.
Supporting Charities and Community Projects
Liverpool’s Foundation will be receiving half the proceeds of the auction. It will then be used to support various charities, as well as community projects. It was also unveiled, that another 10% of the sales from the legendary heroes, as well as 10% of all future royalties coming in, will also go to the Foundation. And that’s not all. There will also be a collection called LFC Foundation Heroes, that will feature caricatures of staff members that made a difference in Liverpool’s community, in the past. This will bring in new revenues, but also acknowledge the importance of lesser-known individuals, linked to Liverpool FC.
Finally, it needs to be mentioned, that the ownership of these LFC NFTs will enable their proprietor to have access to an online community, which will include virtual hang-outs where they can discuss all together, and special competitions. They will also benefit from retail discounts on Liverpool FC products.
