Former Chelsea keeper Lenny Pidgeley joins Forest Green Rovers

FOREST GREEN ROVERS have bolstered their goalkeeping options with the addition of veteran Lenny Pidgeley until the end of the season.

The 32-year-old had been playing for Leatherhead in the Ryman Premier after being released by Newport County at the end of last season.

Starting his career at Chelsea, Pidgeley made two appearances for the Blues before featuring in the Football League for Watford, Millwall, Carlisle United and Bradford City.

He dropped into Non-League with Newport in August 2012 and helped the Welsh club to promotion through the Conference play-offs.

He spent time on loan at Mansfield Town last season before being released by Newport and signing for Leatherhead in January.

Forest Green, currently second in the National League, have swooped for Pidgeley with Jonny Maxted out for the rest of the season and Dale Eve on international duty with Bermuda

A Leatherhead statement read: “Lenny has been great around the dressing room for us and we wish him all the best of luck at Forest Green.

“When Lenny came in he made it clear his ambitions to play again in the Conference and Football League and we certainly wouldn’t stand in his way.

“In the couple of games he played you could see how good he still is and we have no doubts he will go on to be a success with them. We would like to thank him for the work he has done with our goalkeepers and for being a positive influence around the club.”

Pidgeley added: “I would like to thank everybody at the club. I really enjoyed my short time at Leatherhead but had to take the opportunity of full-time football again.”
