National League North side Alfreton Town have completed the signing of 30-year-old former striker Liam Hearn.

The forward had joined the Reds Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division neighbours Ilkeston FC earlier this summer, but the club was suspended for a ‘breach of the league’s rules’.

Due to Ilkeston’s off-field problems, Hearn left the club and has come back to the Reds, a club he first joined in 2008.

He started out at Hucknall Town, before representing Eastwood Town, Chasetown and Quorn, with 30 goals in that time.

In his first spell at Alfreton, Hearn mustered an impressive 65 goals in ninety-four first team appearances, and his form saw him join National League Grimsby Town in a deal worth around £30,000.

At the Mariner’s, he carried on his excellent form, notching 33 goals in sixty-one appearances as they fought for promotion back into the Football League, while he also won ‘Supporters Player of the Year’ in 2012.

Hearn has also played for Mansfield Town in League Two, and Lincoln City, in a prolific lower league career, but is back at Alfreton and available for tomorrow’s fixture at home to Curzon Ashton, where they go in search of their second home win in a row.
