League Two side Forest Green Rovers have signed another promising Non-League starlet in left-back Alex Whittle from the National League North’s York City.
Last season’s play-off final winners snapped up Weston-super-Mare’s hotshot striker Dayle Grubb early this month and now Whittle will join him on a free transfer when the window opens in January.
“I’m buzzing about the move,” said the 24-year-old.
“I’ve been waiting to get the chance to play in the Football League so I’m delighted.
“The philosophy of the style of play was a big selling factor for me. They always try to get the ball down and try and play.
“It worked well for them last season and I know they are trying to play that way again this season.
“I’ve just got to come in, work hard and I always give it my all and I hope to get my chance and take it.”
Whittle spent 11 years at Liverpool’s academy before being released in 2011. After a spell at the Glenn Hoddle Academy and the Nike Academy, he signed for Scottish First Division side Dunfermaline Athletic on a three-year contract.
He was released by the club in 2015 after making 78 appearances before signing for AFC Fylde and then Southport in the 2015-16 season.
York swooped for Whittle ahead of last season on a one-year contract with the option of a second year which was taken up.
