National League name Matthew Rowson as Young Player of the Month

National League

Halifax Town’s Matthew Rowson is November’s Vanarama National League Young Player of the Month.

With so many shining stars coming through at the ranks, young players need to really stand out to get noticed these days and the 17-year-old has certainly been impressing while earning rave reviews.

The teenager is very much one to keep an eye on and those who know him at the Shay think Friday’s accolade is well-earned.

First team manager Pete Wild told the National League’s website: “Matt has shown good quality in the games I have watched him, holding the ball up, bringing others into play and scoring goals.

“This has been rewarded with game time with the first team. We hope this helps with his development and encourages others to make the same steps.”

Youth team coach Mike Jeffries, the club’s Youth Team coach, has been equally as impressed with the Shaymen starlet.

“He has been a good character on and off the pitch,” he said.  “His performances have been good and are improving. In addition to this, he has scored consistently over the past month, his performances also caught the eye of the first team.”

He added: “In the classroom his approach has been good and consistent which is crucial for any young player.”

Look out for news on all of November’s Vanarama National League awards throughout Friday as they are announced.
