King Kyle has lofty ambitions

AT 6’9’’, there’s very little that Kyle Hudlin would determine as a tall order – but a move into the Football League this week has seen him hit new heights.

The 22-year-old striker helped take Solihull Moors to the brink of the Football League last season but will now get his own opportunity.

After being snapped up on a two-year deal by Championship outfit Huddersfield Town, Hudlin was swiftly sent out on a season-long loan to League Two AFC Wimbledon. It continues his rapid rise.

Hudlin joined Moors in October 2020 after catching the eye at lower league sides Boldmere Sports, Social Falcons and Solihull United.

Ecstatic

He subsequently netted 16 goals for the Damson Park club, most recently in the National League promotion final where Neal Ardley’s side eventually went down 2-1 to Grimsby Town at the London Stadium.

Now the giant striker is looking to fulfil his long- term ambitions with Huddersfield, who themselves were denied promotion to the Premier League after losing to Nottingham Forest in the Championship play-off final back in May.

“I’m ecstatic,” Hudlin told Terriers TV. “I had other interest from different clubs, but this was definitely where I set my mind to and feel like I’ll get the best development for the rest of my career.”

As for his Dons switch, he added: “It’s a great opportunity to showcase my talent in League football.”

Moors’ technical director Craig Cope has worked with Hudlin closely and couldn’t be prouder of his hotshot.

He said: “Kyle embarks on this new and exciting stage of his career with our very best wishes. We are proud to have played such a crucial part in Kyle’s development over the past two seasons.

“Huddersfield Town have a proven record of recruiting players from our level and taking their careers to the next level. We sincerely hope Kyle flourishes in his new surroundings.”

● Moors have resigned defender Fiacre Kelleher on a season-long loan from Bradford City.

The 26-year-old made 43 appearances and scored two goals during his last spell at the Moors over four years ago.

“I’m delighted to be back,” the Irishman said. “It’s changed a lot since I was last here – obviously for the better! The club is really starting to thrive and I’m hoping to make some more good memories.”
