MARCUS Maddison stepped aside from professional football in April 2021 while on loan at Bolton Wanderers, disillusioned by the sport that had promised to give him so much, but which had eventually mentally drained him.
A career that had battled to face up to the pressures that come with the full-time game was cut short and Maddison was left to pick up the pieces. “When I quit professional football I had reached a breaking point,” the 28-year-old former Peterborough United and Charlton Athletic man told The NLP.
