UNDERFIRE York City chairman Glen Henderson says chosen man David Webb “fits in with the long-term vision” of the club.
Webb, who worked in Mauricio Pochettino backroom team at both Southampton and Tottenham, has been handed the reins at the LNER Community Stadium following the unpopular sacking of John Askey last month.
And Henderson, who has taken flak from fans since Askey’s departure, says Webb is the right man to lead the Minstermen’s National League campaign.
“The key to this appointment was finding someone who aligns with our longterm vision for the club, and David was the stand- out candidate from the start,” Henderson said of the former Millwall, AFC Wimbledon and Crystal Palace academy coach.
“He is talented and experienced across all aspects of managing a football club, from first team management, player development, scouting, coaching, motivation, and with an excellent understanding of how the football busi- ness works.”
Webb, a UEFA ‘A’ licensed coach, also worked as a consultant for German club Hoffenheim and Spanish side Real Betis before joining Swedish outfit Östersund FK as technical director in 2019, a role which also saw him assist with coaching.
He will be assisted at York by former Tadcaster
Albion boss Michael Morton, who joins the club from Leeds United’s academy with the pair looking to end an eightmatch winless win before yesterday’s visit of Wrexham.
“I’m really exciting to be here, it’s an historic club in an historic town,” Webb told the club’s website. “It’s a great stadium, great training ground, I’m just super excited to be here and get going.”
