PETER TAYLOR reckons the England players will be “desperate” for Gareth Southgate to stay on as manager despite their World Cup disappointment.
The new Maldon & Tiptree boss oversaw one game in caretaker charge of the Three Lions, against Italy in November 2000, where he famously made David Beckham captain for the first time.
Southgate has said he is thinking over his future after England’s World Cup quarter-final defeat to France last Saturday.
But Taylor believes his successor will have plenty of backing from his squad if he was to decide to stay on.
