BATH CITY’S Ryan Clarke was once backed-up by World Cup winning goalkeeper Emi Martinez – and two days later had shoot-out success of his own!
Former Oxford United stopper Clarke, 40, was No.1 at Oxford when Martinez had to be drafted in on loan from Arsenal at the end of the season to cover his injury.
Fast-forward ten years and the now Aston Villa stopper has just played a pivotal role in Argentina being crowned world champions when they beat France in Sunday’s final.
Martinez saved Kingsley Coman’s spot-kick having also saved twice in a shoot-out win against Holland.
