York are close to tying up a deal – Glen

POSITIVE: Glen Henderson

owner Glen Henderson says ‘only a few details need to be completed' with the prospective new owners of the club.

Henderson took the reins at the club last summer following their promotion back to the , but it hasn't proved plain sailing.

In December, the businessman offered to sell his majority shareholding to the York City Supporters' Trust before seeming to change his mind. In the event, the trust were unable to find the funds to purchase the club before a deadline in early April.

It meant Henderson, who lost the confidence of part of the fanbase when he axed popular promotion-winning boss John Askey in November, could sell the shares on the open market.

In a statement on the club website on Friday, the chairman suggested that process could now be drawing to a close.

He said: “Over the past few months, I have held talks with a number of potential buyers. Following these discussions, I believe that I have found the right people to take the club forward.

“The potential investors have now met with myself and the trust on numerous occasions and talks continue. We are now at an advanced stage with the interested party, and only a few details need to be completed.

“There are exciting times ahead for the club and I have complete faith that the ambition of the potential new owners will ensure a very bright future for YCFC.”

He pledged to keep fans up to speed with any major developments.

He added: “At this stage the nature of these negotiations are subject to strict processes and there is a degree of confidentiality that must be adhered to. Rest assured that we will keep supporters updated as and when we can.”
