What do we all do in the close season? Some eagerly await new signings, complain when the fixtures aren’t out at the same time as the Premier League (“Workington away on a Tuesday, AGAIN!”) and daydream about winning the League by Christmas.
Others spend the summer castigating rival clubs for reckless spending whilst battering their own for ‘lack of ambition’. Clubs hire cess Improvement Managers (whatever they are). Fans plan that away weekend in Whitby and fume when they discover the game is either midweek or in February.
