Radcliffe FC have rejected an approach for popular managerial duo, Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley.

And it came just 24 hours after ambitious Lancashire rivals Bury FC announced they were looking for a new boss after Dave McNabb had moved upstairs to take up a new role as head of football operations.

Johnson and Morley have spearheaded an unlikely promotion push at Step 2 this season with Boro currently occupying in a play-off spot in National League North.

The club have moved quickly to shut down any speculation surrounding the duo’s futures, stressing that both remain fully committed.

“We can confirm that an approach has been made regarding Managers Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley, and wish to make clear that this approach has been formally rejected,” the club declared.

“Both managers remain fully committed to their current roles, and we hold Anthony and Bernard in the highest regard, valuing the incredible ongoing work they continue to deliver.

“As such, no discussions or negotiations will be entered into, and no further comment will be made at this time.”

Johnson and Morley are considered to be Non-League’s top managerial duo having earned measured success over 11 years together at the likes of Ramsbottom United, Salford City, Chester and Spennymoor Town before joining Boro in May 2023.

Wide speculation suggests the interest may have come from Bury FC – Johnson being a fan – as they look to continue their rise up the Non-League ladder following their expulsion from the EFL back in 2019.

McNabb led Bury to the North West Counties League title last season with the club currently sitting fourth in NPL West table.
