Eastbourne Borough have parted ways with management pair Tommy Widdrington and Hugo Langton.

In a statement shared across the club’s social media platforms, the board of directors expressed disappointment with the club’s current league position and recent results in the National League South.

The Sports are rooted to the bottom of the table with just two wins out of their last 10 matches.

The statement read: “Tommy was provided with the resources he requested. Injuries have undoubtedly disrupted momentum, but difficult circumstances are part of football at this level, particularly when operating under sustained pressure.”

Fight

This managerial change ends manager Widdrington’s second spell at Eastbourne, only six months after his re-appointment.

He originally joined the club in February 2012, managing almost 250 games until April 2017.

The board affirmed: “With 13 matches remaining, we will continue to push for safety. That fight is not over.

“However, it would be negligent not to prepare responsibly for every eventuality.

“We know how difficult it is to recover from relegation, and the scale of the investment – financially, emotionally and strategically – that has brought us to this level, should have delivered a better outcome.”

The departure follows Eastbourne’s 1-0 defeat to Chesham United on Tuesday night, notably involving a red card for 20-year-old Southampton loanee Will Armitage.

“The players fought until the 100th minute last night and their effort cannot be questioned,” the statement added. “But effort alone is not enough.”

Transition

In his post-match interview, assistant manager Langton anticipated being “back in on Thursday morning” to prepare for their next fixture against Torquay United

Widdrington, who led Aldershot Town to FA Trophy triumph in 2025, has lost 15 matches since his re-appointment, whilst winning six and drawing two, including a 7-0 loss to Torquay United.

The statement concluded: “Planning has now begun for all scenarios, including the potential transition to part-time football and building a squad capable of competing for promotion should that be required.

“Our responsibility is to protect the stability, sustainability and competitive future of this club.“

“We are aware of the reaction after recent fixtures. There will be no further comment at this time.”
