Macclesfield FC chairman Rob Smethurst says the £800,000 raised from the FA Cup ties against Premier League clubs Crystal Palace and Brentford are a ‘game changer’ for the Step 2 Silkmen.
And he reckons the proceeds of the cup run will enable the phoenix club to drive forward in its goal to regain its EFL status.
“Non-League has become more expensive,” Smethurst told The NLP after Monday night’s single-goal defeat to the Bees, courtesy of Sam Heathcote’s unfortunate 70th-minute own goal.
