Workington Return For New Boss McDonald

SKRILL North have announced that former player Ian McDonald is returning to the club as manager until the end of the season.

McDonald, who has been scouting in the north west for clubs such as Middlesbrough, Everton and Preston, played for the Reds in the 1970s before being signed for Liverpool by legendary manager Bill Shankly for a record £33,333 fee.

Since retiring from a playing career that included 671 league appearances and 90 goals, McDonald has coached at Aldershot, Millwall, Portsmouth, , , and spent time in Australia.

Ashley Hoskin, a former reserve team manager for Burnley and Accrington Stanley, will assist McDonald at Borough Park as the pair try to improve the club's second from bottom league position.

Reds chairman Glenn Heathcote told the club's website: “Ian and Ashley have a wealth of experience in both the League and at level which will be invaluable to us as we start work to move the club away from the relegation zone.

“I remember watching Ian when he was a player here at Borough Park and all through his interview his passion and love for the club came through loud and clear.”

Caretaker manager Gavin Skelton will revert to his former role as player-coach.
