JAMES GRAY and Graham Golds have quit as joint-managers of Vanarama National League South side St Albans City.
The pair resigned straight after Saturday's 4-0 defeat at Lowestoft Town in the FA Trophy, the club's third straight defeat.
Gray and Golds took over the Saints in November 2012, replacing David Howell, and led the club to promotion from the Southern League Premier in 2013-14 as well as reaching the first round of the FA Cup.
They comfortably survived at Step 2 last season, finishing 13th, and made the first round of the Cup again this campaign but their league form has been poor.
The Saints are second bottom of the National League South with just three wins from their 17 league games so far this term, scoring only 13 times.
A St Albans statement read: “Following today's defeat away to Lowestoft in the FA Trophy, the club has accepted the resignation of joint managers James Gray and Graham Golds.
“The club would like to thank James and Graham for all their work and wish them both every success in the future. First team coach, Harry Wheeler, will manage the game on Tuesday evening away to Oxhey Jets in the Herts Senior Cup.”
Gray added: “Overwhelming support from fans, friends and colleagues since making our decision yesterday. We are very humbled, we left the club in a better place than we found it we feel. Myself and Graham will make a full statement in due course.”
