Boro started the brighter, Matt Patterson’s near post flick to Harvey Rew’s low cross just clearing the bar. Hammers ace Connor Cocklin’s header from Curtis Young’s corner was a tad too high.
The second period livened up, with the Hammers sensing the chance of an upset after the Boro stopper saw red for bringing down Young just outside the box.
