NEAL Ardley spent the days before Wigan’s visit to North Yorkshire warning his team that any chance of an upset was contingent on taking chances and minimising blunders.
Sadly for the 6,000 shivering supporters who braved sub-zero temperatures and freezing fog to cheer on their side at the LNER, he was spot on.
York battled and scrapped, defending doggedly for so long that the scoreboard – possessed of just four digits – stopped dead at 99.59. Frozen, like everyone else.
