■PAUL Hodges’ superb strike gave Hartley Wintney the victory.
The first 15 minutes was cat and mouse with both sides sounding each other out, Hartley’s Jack French dragging a shot wide while Henry Birkett’s freekick was punched clear.
The only goal of the game came in the 42nd minute when Hodges picked up the ball on the edge of the box and fired past a helpless Ollie Hall.
Hall was called into action twice in three minutes saving shots from Steve Duff and Hodges, the latter hitting the post.
