■ WIDNES won a FA Trophy tie for the first time in the club’s history with a win over Brighouse Town.
The Whites made a fast start and took the lead after just three minutes with Sam Adetiloye’s sweetly struck volley nestling in the far corner.
And they sealed victory after 73 minutes when Jordan Southworth thumped home from 12 yards out to mark his second debut for the club with a goal. Brighouse’s best chance fell to sub Laurence Sorhaindo, but he missed the target after rounding Owen Wheeler with the goal gaping.
