SHILDON advanced to the next round courtesy of an ultimately deserved win.
Under unusually warm October conditions, the first period was cagey.
The best moment saw Cleethorpes’ keeper Charlie Dixon acrobatically turn a close range shot onto the crossbar.
After the interval, the game opened up and became much more entertaining.
Both sides went close before the dangerous Dean Thexton weaved his way past three challenges to fire the visitors ahead.
