■ AN early first-half double from the centre-half Carl Mensah put Welwyn GC firmly in control of this tie and Ashford never looked like clawing their way back into it.
Mensah headed the Citizens in front when the Ashford defence failed to clear a bouncing ball and the defender headed over keeper Paul McCarthy.
Nine minutes later he doubled his tally, getting the final touch to a clever flick from Elliot Bailey from a corner.
